Parent and Player Expectations

SBGLA believes that overall success of our youth athlete is highly dependent on parental involvement and example.  Parents play a critical role in shaping and supporting the athlete.  Also, youth sports allow young athletes to grow as responsible leaders and teammates.  As such, SBGLA parents and players are expected to meet certain levels of behavior.

As a Parent please strive to:

  • Have your child to practice promptly.  Consistently arriving late to practices is disruptive to the other players, and disrespectful to the coaches who have a limited amount of time to accomplish their practice plan.
  • Ensure that your child has all necessary equipment including water bottle, prior to the first practice.
  • Whenever possible, avoid carrying equipment and doing work for players.  We want players who are responsible/accountable for themselves.
  • Encourage your child to pick up their stick and work on their lacrosse skills at home.
  • Offer your child praise and positive recognition so they can play their very best
  • Don't give instructions to your child during the game - LET THE COACHES COACH
  • Cheer good plays by both teams.
  • Never criticize another player (our team or opposing team)
  • IF you think an official makes an incorrect call, be silent.
  • Don't do anything in the heat of the moment that you will regret after the game.
  • Hold SBGLA responsible for creating a safe, healthy environment for your child's development
  • Contribute to your child's lacrosse development by donating, or asking how you can get involved

As a Player please strive to:

  • Attend all practices and always arrive early for practices and games
  • Respect your coaches, teammates, team administrators, and referees
  • Listen to your coaches.
  • Never argue with referees or opposing players
  • Support your fellow lax teammates on and off the field
  • Celebrate your teammates successes
  • Help your teammates learn from mistakes or shortcomings in a positive way
  • Find opportunities to play lacrosse when you have free time at home or with friends
  • Play to the best of your ability and HAVE FUN!
